Ideas for families, expats, and curious Spanish learners in Spain

Summer in Spain is full of calor, fiestas populares, and very long days… especially if you have kids at home. As a teacher and a mother, I know what it’s like to balance trabajo, children’s energy, and a desire to keep learning alive – without screens all day. 😅

That’s why at Cucu Spanish, we’ve created a lighter, flexible way to learn Spanish this summer – and I want to share some ideas you can try at home too.

Here’s your mini verano survival kit (and yes, it’s in español!):

1. Bailamos en casa en español
Turn your living room into a discoteca with Spanish music for kids (or nostalgic adults):
CantaJuego – classic songs with movement
La Vaca Lola – guaranteed to stick in your head
Chuchuwa – great for learning verbos and body parts

2. Mini-chefs en acción– Cocina comida española.
Cooking together is a perfect way to learn vocabulary. Try:
Tortitas fáciles with toppings
Gazpacho (no stove needed!)
Bizcocho de yogur – a sponge cake children can help measure

3. Ciencia en español
Turn your kitchen into a laboratorio:
– Make slime casero
– Do the huevo flotante experiment (with salt!)
– Build a volcán con vinagre – ¡explosión asegurada!

4. Aprender español con agua
Language + fun:
– Set up a pistola de agua target with Spanish words
– Label your garden or balcony with names of plantas, colores, objetos
– Use sidewalk chalk to draw and label the world in español

Whether you’re a parent, student or both, you don’t need a textbook to keep learning. Use everyday life to boost your vocabulary, confidence, and connection to la cultura española.
