Dear Cucu Spanish Online School Community,
This month, we’re taking an important step by combining Spanish learning with a cause that’s close to us: supporting those affected by the DANA in the Valencia region. That’s how our Solidarity Package was born! With each registration, 10% is donated to the Red Cross to support those impacted by the floods. But this project is more than a special offer—it’s sparked reflection, engagement, and countless learning opportunities within our classes, creating a meaningful and impactful way to learn Spanish.
From day one, we’ve integrated this project into our classes. Through debates, readings, and writing exercises, we’ve explored the concepts of solidarity and community support with students at all levels. Our students have had the chance to research the DANA, understand its impact, and learn about the efforts of support organizations in the Valencia area. These lessons have been especially meaningful for our IBDP Spanish students and Spanish learners, fostering empathy and real-world learning.
The response from our students has been fantastic! In their writings, they’ve expressed empathy and solidarity for those affected, sharing reflections and ideas on ways to help. Many students have shown interest in the Red Cross and other humanitarian efforts, motivated to engage in meaningful ways beyond the classroom. These discussions have created a collaborative, reflective environment, with genuine interest in supporting those in need.
To further engage students, we’ve created activities that combine Spanish learning with social impact, including:
- Writing exercises in which students reflect on the impact of the DANA and the importance of community support.
- Class debates and discussions on climate change and how these events impact communities globally.
- Reading and analyzing Spanish-language articles about the DANA and its effects on communities.
This approach has allowed us to introduce vocabulary related to the environment, humanitarian support, and emotions, providing students with meaningful context to expand their Spanish skills.
The creation of the Solidarity Package has not only provided direct support but also strengthened our school community. Each student who joins this package helps make a difference. Together, we’re taking Spanish learning beyond words—creating positive impact and building a more connected world.
Thank you to everyone who has joined us in this initiative! Let’s keep learning, growing, and supporting others together.
Un abrazo,
The Cucu Spanish Online School Team
